The United Nations (UN) General Assembly declared 2011 as the International Year of Forests (IYF 2011) through a resolution passed on December 20, 2006. It is a global platform to celebrate people’s action to sustainably manage the forests of the world.
Indian Astrobiology Research Centre (IARC) is associated with the IYF program since January 04, 2011. IARC is offering the IYF 2011 Certification Program for Schools & Students in India and A Special Edition Short Term Course for undergraduates and post graduates; The program is listed on the United Nations Calendar. IYF 2011 Certification Program is available from September to December 2011.
The IYF 2011 Certification Program aims to create sensitivity towards forests and environment and thus prepare us for the green jobs of the future.
This program drives the point that to know about the environment is no more a matter of optional interest but rather a need of immediate future.
Benefits

Eligibility
1. Minimum Undergrad Level (preferably students).
2. Fluent in English and local language(s).
3. General Awareness about environmental issues.
4. Well groomed and well-mannered.
Volunteer Role and Responsibilities
1. To approach schools and explain them the benefits of the IYF 2011 Certification Program.
2. To encourage schools / students to register.
3. To facilitate entire registration process (i.E. from collecting forms and fees from schools to providing the IYF study pack to the school).
4. To coordinate with IARC (mostly web-based).
