National Institute of Advanced Studies has, over the last two decades, been developing a multidisciplinary knowledge base that would help address some of the critical problems facing India. It has emphasised both the multidisciplinary research that goes to create this knowledge as well as the dissemination of the latest thinking to those who can make a difference to these issues. To take this initiative forward the institute has now launched a series of programmes and invites applications for post-doctoral fellowships as well as faculty positions. NIAS invites applications from postgraduates in Engineering or Statistics as a Research Associate in a  project to study the relative benefits of advancing Indian Standard Time, introducing time zones or daylight saving time. The position is based in Bangalore, involves some domestic travel and is initially for one year. Interested candidates may apply with a CV and three references to:

Doctoral and Post-Doctoral fellowships are available under a new research programme entitled ‘Provincial Globalisation: The Impact of Reverse Transnational Flows in India’s Regional Towns’. This is an international collaborative programme of the Amsterdam School for Social Science Research (ASSR), University of Amsterdam (UvA), and NIAS, beginning in January 2010. The doctoral fellowships will be for four years beginning in June/July 2010 and the Post-Doctoral position for two years beginning in April/May 2010.
